Best of Summer Series: Salsa Fiesta Opens in Pembroke Pines

With the Summer of 2011 slowly seeping away, I've decided to highlight some of the best events and fabulous finds of the passing season. Some of the pieces were published, while others fell silent to lack of time. Feel free to share some of your favorite summer time memories or comment on the ones I share.

One of my favorite lunch spots, Salsa Fiesta, crossed county lines for its second South Florida location. I discovered the Miami flagship (located on Biscayne Boulevard) while working at the old New Times building across the street. My personal menu favs include the Hot Tamale Taco, the Veggie Urban Bowl and the Mayan Roll.

Hot Tamale Taco.

The Broward location's decor completely outdoes the flagship. The vibe is a bundle of urban-funky-freshness; there's a colorful, day-of-the-dead style icon painted on the back wall, refurbished wood on the side walls, industrial fixtures, perfect mood lighting and a good mix of seating options. Each nook has an interesting detail, so you're bound to notice something new each time you visit. Had Salsa made CDs of the musical rotation I probably would have bought a copy (my guest at the opening had his Shazam app in full effect). I've yet to check out the happy hour, but it's definitely on the "to do" list.

Hit the jump for more exclusive photos of the new Salsa Fiesta location.

Luv,

Li
