Over the Weekend: Photos of a Treehouse Nightclub, Sushi Samba, and a Sunset

It was a busy weekend for little miss LuvLi. I covered the opening of Treehouse Miami for a blog post on the Miami New Times' music blog, Crossfade. I then popped into Sushi Samba on Lincoln Road for the first time. I also managed to catch a gorgeous sunset over Hollywood Beach on Saturday night.

The photos below are from Treehouse's main room.

After visiting Treehouse, I hopped over to Sushi Samba on Lincoln Road for the first time. I decided to only have appetizers since I found the main menu a little overpriced. Between all the appetizers (including edamame, $6 and miso soup, $4.50), the Crispy Taquitos were by far the best. They were served with spicy aji panca sauce and fresh lime. I chose to have the yellowtail option which came with shiso, avocado, and roasted corn miso. Despite the tiny portion size and the $6 per taquito price tag, the dish was absolutely delicious.

I was also fascinated by their ceiling.

Saturday I was able to catch a gorgeous sunset over Hollywood Beach with my phone. It was the perfect way to relax after a rigorous beach workout.

Pub Grub: Drexel Irish Pub

Drexel Irish Pub
Espanola Way, South Beach

Positives:
This little spot offers a unique twist to an iconic street. Inside, it's dark and cozy, while the outside offers sidewalk seating. Flat screens, beer barrel tables, and an off-the-road location make this pub an ideal hideaway. Grub wise, the burgers sore above the rest, while the potato skins take a comfortable second place. Unlike most potato skins, these did not fall apart or shrivel up due to mass or grease.

Negatives:
The rest of the food disappoints. The wing sauces lacked kick, the ribs were actually over seasoned, and the mashed potatoes came without gravy.

Tanteo Tequila

Positives: Delicious drinks, amazing views, and a relaxing but social ambiance.

Negatives: $24 valet and the drinks were not free (like at most tasting sponsored events.)

Updated Contact Information & Farewell Letter

Hello everyone,

As of Friday, January 7, 2011, I will be stepping down from my position as the Club Listings Editor at the Miami New Times.

This decision is completely amicable and I will continue to freelance for the publication (and others) regularly. Please continue to send any pitches and updates my way. I have also taken up photography and will be available for freelance photography as well.

My replacement has yet to be confirmed. Please direct any inquires to Sean Pajot, the music editor, at Sean.Pajot@MiamiNewTimes.com starting Monday, January 10. Keep in mind that position itself handles club listings, events, and announcements, as well as concert listings - all of which go online and in print. Please also keep in mind that this is a transitional period - so I apologize if any events/listings are missing in the upcoming month.

It has been a pleasure working with you all and I look forward to continuing our correspondence! Best wishes for the New Year!

My primary email will be LianaLozada@yahoo.com. I am also on Twitter - @Luv_Li.

Creatively,

Liana Lozada
