I just got back from an amazing three-day trip to Marco Island, Florida - this west coast paradise offers us uptight Sofla east coasters a great place to truly kickback, relax, and enjoy the view. My resort was right on the beach but after the second day, I realized I hadn't brought enough swimwear. Each morning welcomed a new set of activities; wave running, sailing, spa and jacuzzi time, and beach bathing. Even after leaving my pieces to dry in the sun on the balcony, they would occasionally feel a bit damp the following day, making for a desperate (and visually hysterical) use of the blow dryer.
Initially I thought I'd turn to Miami's Swim Week (which is right around the corner) to scour new bikinis, all in hopes of preventing such a dilemma in the future. But given the designer price tags and out-of-reach retail timeline, it really wasn't a reasonable proposition. As a certified beach bum, this isn't the first time I've run into this problem. The only real solution is to have multiple pieces of affordable but stylish swimwear, thus avoiding the awkward, damp swimsuit feeling. Not only is it uncomfortable, it is also unhealthy.
Thankfully, Old Navy has a slew of cute and convertible pieces that don't break the beachy bank - most pieces average around or under $20. There is truly something for everyone: Supportive triangle tops for the athletically inclined, beautiful bandeaus for the chic lounger, and wonderful one pieces that don't scream "boring!" I've included some of my fav Old Navy finds below - feel to comment and share your favs as well!
